Dang, I wrote this review a few days ago, and somehow missed hitting the post review button. It was just sitting in drafts the last couple of days. Anyway here it goes.
My husband and I visited this place on a workday evening while the place was still in a soft opening stage. Only two sets of patrons were dining at the restaurant that evening including us.
The restaurant is huge, I mean HUGE with various different sections and has a great layout, color and ambience. Pretty upscale. We were waited hand and foot. The server was very friendly, attentive and regularly refilled our water, napkins even without us asking, made sure we had everything that we needed to have an enjoyable dining experience. The owner of the restaurant Alok Bhatia was extremely friendly and it felt like we were visiting a hospitable friends house rather than a restaurant.
The food was overall pretty phenomenal!
We had the following items and this is how we’d rate them:
Mango Lassi – Fresh and Excellent
Peanut masala – Fresh and Excellent
Gobi manchurian- Very good and the green sauce accompaniment was phenomenal.
Plain naan – Fresh and Excellent
Peas paneer – Good, solid! Spiced differently than the usual fare else where.
Kulfi dessert – Pretty good
Note: The owner was very generous and gave us a couple of freebies on the house. Thank you!!!
Overall we give this place two thumbs up and 5 stars. Definitely coming back again. When this restaurant opens up full time after the construction is completed soon, this is for sure going to be a popular neighborhood hotspot – eatery/ lounge/ gastro pub.
Best of luck to the owner and his family on this new adventure.
Probably the best Indian restaurant we have been to. Very authentic with excellent service.
Found this place close to my apartment they haven’t opened completely yet but the food and service is really excellent especially the guy who served me Anoop was always smiling overall a good experience
I was really excited to see this new restaurant in Newark. Just finished my meal…
OMG so good I ordered chilli prawns, veg paneer and garlic naan. The flavors were amazing I wanted to save for lunch next day but I couldn’t stop eating.
The decor is in the process but even at this stage you can tell it’s going to be really nice.
I was greeted by Sai a wonderful guy he made me feel welcome and we chatted while I waited for my food .
I highly recommend this place..so glad it’s here Newark needed something new
Food and Service was very good. They are still in a soft opening state. Small hiccups with the menu, and we were asked to tip in cash. Food is wonderful!
Go in with the expectation that this is soft opening in terms of ambience/decor and staffing. They have a full menu with tons of amazingly delicious options. Best samosas I’ve have in a long time.
My good friend & I went there for lunch today. It was our first time here. They are still under remodeling which is just fine for us. We had the pleasure of meeting the manager who was very very pleasant to talk to. Our waiter was very nice. We both really enjoyed our lunch & are looking forward to returning & trying new dishes.
Give this restaurant a try you won’t be disappointed.
Don’t make the fact that the restaurant is still remodeling & it’s not totally furnished. If you’re going there for good food you found the right place. They are a diamond in the rough now but they soon will be the shiniest diamond in the area.
We were able to locate this place on searching for pomfret curry on yelp. Ha. We have tried quite a few of their dishes especially sea food. The food has been consistently excellent and flavorful. It’s very difficult to find a good Indian restaurant especially with quality sea food. Their chicken and mutton dishes too hit the mark. We have tried all 3 options ( sit down, take out and delivery ) and had no complaints with the service and the food.
It’s a soft opening , so there are still some growing pains in terms of decor, furniture and all. But i am sure they will figure it out. They are definitely going to be busier in the days to come. Only hope is that they dont lose out on their food quality once they get more customers. Personal recommendations – squid roast, pomfret curry, tawa fried fish, gongura goat cury, goan fish curry and kulfi. Highly recommended.
So yeah … This was my second visit to this restaurant and had the most awesome food ever …. Like i said before the flavorz are excellent.
I dont think this restaurant needs any advertising as the food speaks by itself ; However I would recommend all the indian food lovers to definitely give this restaurant a try and you wont regret.
This time i tried chicken chettinad, bhendi masala peas pulao and garlic naan. Everythg had the right amount of spice and masala which i hardly find in other Indian restaurants in US. Though i am not a fan of lassi but guess what …I loved the mango lassi Which ofcourse I ordered only becoz it was free with yelp checkin but then i fell in love with it so i would definitely order it next time as well.
The owners of this place are also extremely nice. I could see how hard they are working to keep things rolling soon and making the place look awesome with the plans they have for the place.
Overall we were one happy satisfied customers who would be returning soon
First of all, I’m thrilled there is a nice Indian restaurant now in Newark. The decor was impressive and what I assume is the owner, greeted us warmly and immediately explained some of the items on the menu.
We started with nectarous Mango Lasi’s and — DRINK menu is extraordinary! Cosmo’s, Margarita’s, Manhattan’s, and great wine and beer selection. Really wanted one but had to go to work after….
My daughter is vegetarian so we started with Stuffed Vegetarian Naan bites– piquant! Best Chicken Tikka Masala I’ve ever had and loved the Okra veggie and Palak Paneer. AND I highly recommend the assorted naan basket (Garlic, Butter and Plain) since we love our bread with the yummy sauces.
Only down was the kitchen is still organizing being new and all so the food delivery took a bit longer than usual– BUT WELL WORTH IT.
We ordered five or six items and two mango lasi’s — bill came to $63.00. Not bad. Definitely coming back to the bar and chilling with a cocktail and appetizer too!
New Indian authentic restaurant. Beautiful decor, good colors, nice furniture, very modern, great food.
Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of our family during our visit to Roobaru. You and your staff were so very accommodating and gave us personal touch. The food was delicious like home made food, interesting menu, wonderful dinner that was perfectly served.
All in all, a perfect dinner with homely atmosphere.
